what exactly is the accelerated basic qualification anyway?
Drivers who drive commercial goods and passenger transport vehicles need a basic qualification and regular further training in addition to their driver's license, because they are confronted with special challenges in road traffic. This basic qualification qualifies professional drivers to drive a bus or truck for commercial purposes and must be refreshed by further training at five-year intervals. This also applies to temporary drivers who are on the road for commercial purposes. Journeys for private purposes, on the other hand, are exempt from this obligation. This basic qualification can be acquired by the driver in various ways. Professional drivers who were able to acquire their driving licenses (2, 3, C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE) before the cut-off dates (for bus drivers this is 10.09.2008 / for truck drivers 10.09.2009) benefit from the so-called grandfathering. For the legislator, they are already sufficiently qualified for freight and passenger transport due to their acquisition before the cut-off date and therefore do not require any additional qualification. Drivers who only completed their driving training after this date and will continue to do so in the future are obliged to acquire such a basic qualification by passing an appropriate examination. To acquire the basic qualification, a theoretical and practical examination must be taken and passed at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This is done either by becoming a professional driver by completing the corresponding vocational training, by further training as a specialist within the driving company, or with the help of the accelerated basic qualification.

FAQ on the accelerated basic qualification
How does the accelerated basic qualification work?
The accelerated basic qualification lasts 4 weeks. Our teaching times are Monday - Thursday (08:00 - 16:00) & Friday (08:00 - 14:00). The course comprises a total of 140 lessons of 60 minutes each. At DriveX you will always receive a schedule at the beginning of the week so that you always know exactly what to expect. This involves 130 lessons of theoretical instruction and 10 hours of practical driving instruction (on a bus or truck, depending on the class).
Is the accelerated initial qualification a training course?
The accelerated initial qualification is not training in the sense that it is completed to obtain a driving licence. It is much more of an additional qualification that is prescribed by law for passenger and freight transport. In principle, however, it can be said that it is a further training course that must be completed with an examination.
How does the exam work?
The final exam is a 90-minute written test at the IHK, which consists of equal parts of multiple-choice questions and open questions with direct answers. In order to pass the written exam, you should have sufficient written and spoken German skills.

If you already have the basic qualification for freight transport, you can upgrade to the basic qualification for passenger transport at any time.
